University Motto and Emblem

CCU founder Prof. Dr. Chang Chi-Yun quoted the last words of Dr. Sun Yat-sen, as the university motto, which is composed of four Chinese characters: “temperament, simplicity, strength and tenacity,” underlining the importance of a student’s mindful awareness of the significance of education and social responsibility in life.

According to Confucius, temperament refers to a person's true nature and sincerity. Simplicity refers to a person's inherent nature or true self, encompassing their moral awareness and innate abilities. Strength implies the ability to endure trials and difficulties, showing perseverance and resilience in the face of challenges. Tenacity is the quality of being very determined, persistent, and resilient in pursuing a goal or objective. It involves the ability to keep going despite challenges, obstacles, or difficulties.

With this motto, Prof. Dr. Chang Chi-Yun encouraged the faculty members and students of CCU to develop themselves into a person with the above qualities.
